Pretty disappointing honestly. The dual-screen concept was a neat idea when it was seen in concept art from 2005.... But these days, anyone with a brain can tell you that you need a capacitive screen and intelligent keyboard software in order to create a good touch keyboard experience. It works well on the iPhone and Android devices particularly because the keyboard is at least on the same plane as the text field. With the Libretto W100, they separate the keyboard from the text field which simply doesn't make sense as you almost always need to look at an OSK in order to type on it (due to the lack of tactile feedback).

Not only does it have the pointless OSK issue, but it also is running Windows 7 with some crappy looking interface slapped on top. No device than I can think of which uses a crappy custom OS on top of part of a Windows OS has EVER gone mainstream. Toshiba acts like this Libretto W100 is on the frontier of technology and innovation, but really it's just the stuff of concept art from 2005 and some extremely poor user experience research/design.

I am considering replacing my ux with this. I take your point about OSKs, but in all honesty, i cant see how it could be much worse than the UX's horrible hardware keyboard which also forces me to look at the keys while typing.

But i agree with you in as much as the second screen will likely turn out to be a gimmick.

No, the big selling point for me is the CPU (a low voltage core i3/5 with turbo and hyperthreading disabled) and the 2GB RAM.

Take away the gimmicks and you still have a decently beefy clamshell in a size that is awash with weedy Atom machines.

A less expensive and more powerful option with a higher resolution screen and an actual keyboard (which makes much more sense than going out of ones way to deal with an OSK) would be a better choice in my opinion. Still I guess if you are looking for something unique (if impractical) the Libretto W100 might be the way to go.

Id love such a machine, but the problem is all the sub 10 inch notebooks I can find are all powered by Atom.
This is what drove me to the Vaio UX in the first place.

Any suggestions?

I picked up a W100 recently and like it very much. It's MUCH faster than the Sony UX490N I previously owned. The haptics are actually pretty good, making the on-screen keyboard a breeze to use. Cheers.

explains why the w100 gets so hot eh! heard it gets hot on the top screen section. Also the fan runs pretty loud all time time.

Ux maintains its cool feel by having a "floating" mainboard, where the chasis and outer housing is partially gapped to reduce heat transmission.

i love the idea and look of the (inside) of the libretto (outside is shocking) but i am sorry they made some real mistakes with simple choices.

i hate to say it but why didn't they use the same stuff as the mac book air 11 inch.

10 watt prosesor. thats all i have to say. 10 watt prosesor with a better clock speed.

why on earth did they use a friken 18 watt prosesor in the libretto?
