I was doing some internet searches on the plugs and could not easily find the exact specs on the size of the UX's DC in power plug, so I thought I'd post the reaearch here for reference.
The popular plugs go by several names some of which are .... Barrel Plug Coaxial Barrel Plug Concentric Barrel plug (with center pin) I carefully measured the plug with a set of digital caliperss and used various sized spring steel wires I have here to guage the inner post .. sizes rounded to the nearest 1/10 of a mm There are FOUR sizes to deal with for the common barrel type power conectors (I'm talking the male end on the power brick wire) The outer diameter of the barrel the inner diameter of the barrel (yellow inner plastic on the UX original) The inner pin diameter ... and the length Standards would seem to be in millimeters The outer diameter of the plasic and metal "nose" is 6.5mm ..... with remainder of the barrel itself being slightly smaller at 6mm (we can assume this is to allow it to grip better) The legth overall outer length of exposed plug before the black plastic is 9.14mm (I assume 9mm or 9.5 would be the nominal size) The inner diameter of the barrel (yellow plastic in this case) is 4.3mm inside diameter The inner pin is dificult to measure but with high maginfication and eyeballing the calpier spacing it appeared to be 1.2 to 1.5mm This is backed up by testing spring steel wire guages in the female plug on the dock. A 1mm will not "grab" at all and 1.2 and 1.4mm plug fit nice and snug My best guess then at the name/size of this plug at that point was .... 6.5mm (with 4.3 mmm inner) X 1.4 mm center pin X 9mm or 9.5mm length I searched this information and came up with the an EIAJ (Electronic Industires Association of Japan) standard plug that best fit these demensions called EIAJ-05 ... once I had that number it was easy to verify that it is one of Sony's standard power plugs. Surprisingly the officaly designation of EIAJ-05 is seldom metioned even in technical catalogues or sales sheets, with only 30 odd hits on Google, most of the hits Googls does have are endless repeats on Wikipideas article on the subject. EIAJ-05 ....... (official sizes 6.5 X 4.4 X 1.4 X 9.5 mm) Radio Shack calls this a "T" plug (RS #273-1723) and it even has the yellow tip Philmore calls it a 265 plug (female plug "214 PC jack") CUI Inc. uses the number P16 (but it's reported as being non-standard with slightly looser tolerances) The female mating plug is sometimes called "Lumberg 1613-11 or 1614-05" With the iGo powerpacks it's called S11 With Targus it's tip #11 With Radio Shack it's their Type "T" plug The Sourse in Canada does not show it on their site but it should be also be type "T" |
