Wow, thanks for the detail analysis. I do have some questions:

1. Are you playing 1080p HD video on the U7700 modded UX with 60% CPU? What about unmodified 1.33GHz core solo UX, can it do 1080p with the latest driver?

2. How much extra battery life do you get? How many minutes on standard battery?

3. Can your UX run Skype under ubuntu? Google voice/talk for free calls?

4. I do use the mouse pointer very much, how bad is the unintentional left click issue?

Thanks for your response!

u7700, can run a test to see if 1080p wil play on u1500 when I have time. I am confident that 720p mkv should work fine on core solo cpu.

battery life on standard sized battery with wireless surfing and medium brightness will yield max 2.5 hours, and that is with u7700 cpu. Watching movies again medium brightness wil yeild just under 2 hours for 720p movie.

yes I run skype on ubuntu without issue, but if you want to use the built in web cam, you have to use a specific version of skype for ubuntu.

The unintentional left click can be annoying, unless you are a very gentle user of the pointer. In general I use the touch screen, and it seems touch screens are really taking off these days. If this an issue, and you knoe linux well, you could probably recompile the kernel to disable left click on the pointer to fix that issue

I don't know ubuntu myself, but I'd imagine the stickpointer would be similar to windows without the Alps driver- ie, extremely annoying. You can "minimize" the click effect by having a good rubber pad for the stick mouse. You can find new ones- from sony or elsewhere. The "no-buck" method is to glue a tiny piece of 400-grit sandpaper to your old pad. (the idea is to use less downward force to move the stick around= fewer mis-clicks.)

BIGS,

Can you try and see if your u7700 equipped UX is able to run Netflix HD? This is a question I wanted to find out for a long time.

Many thanks!!!

BIGS,

Not a problem, didn't realize you are in NZ.

Ceehoppy,

I think you are in NJ? Do you have Netflix? Could you do Netflix HD on your U7700 UX?

Thanks!

Sorry, no Netflix- besides the U7700 currently needs a LCD- & toys are far down on the budget list.

I have crystal HD on my Dell Duo, doesn't help Netflix one bit, unfortunately.
