Seduced by its relatively low price, I bought an Avertec table PC a couple of years ago and had a very bad experience. There were problems from the beginning.
The problems were non-recurring, so they would not replace it. Nor would the lousy Circuit City extended warranty prove any help, as it was crippled by the requirement that a problem occur 3 times before replacing it. The fact that there were multiple independent problems did not matter.
I ended up not using it, thus effectively throwing away $1400.
Sooo, a word to the wise--you should be wary of Averatec--I don't think they make good stuff. I have no reason to believe that any new UMPC would be any different than what I experienced.

I took a 12" averatec to Paris in 2004 and thank god I bought it at Sams (6 month return policy). By the of a two week trip the battery only lasted 45min fully charged. I called Averatec and they acted like this was normal usage.
I returned that one AND the unopened one I had bought my mom for Christmas!
