Need UX benchmark data
Rejoined the UX gang a few days ago, with the arrival of my 490N with U7600 and Samsung 48GB SDD as modded by Anh (Thanks!).
Overall, very please with what a snappy performer this lil' bad boy is....running Win7 Ultimate
However, bit surprised at my results before and after swapping Samsung SSD for a RunCore 64GB SSD. Take a look at results from testing with each of the SSD's in UX:
Here's what I got with Samsung MCBQE48GKMPQ-M1A 48G SSD and the RunCore Pro IV 64GB SSD in CrystalDiskMark:

Perhaps others already know this, but I just found out by looking at 'ATA Channel 0 Properties' in Device Manager under the IDE/ATA/ATAPI section, that UX is using DMA2.
While on my OQO 2+, it uses DMA5 and the Runcore gets very good, high scores on OQO.
So, is this the reason for my relatively low Runcore scores?
If so, is it possible to set UX to run using DMA5 instead of DMA2?

Found another thread on forum suggesting that one way to change DMA2 to DMA5 is to run hdparm.exe program and execute a command to change setting. Only thing is that this is not permanent setting change. You have to redo it every time you start up or wake up from suspend or hibernate.....
Meanwhile, I finally found the Windows version of hdparm.exe, but something is not working right when I run a command for this in cmd.exe.....
The command to check DMA options for UX in linux version is:
hdparm.exe -1 /dev/sda
What would be the name of 'dev/sda' in Windows? would it be C: or ?
Also, after I type the command and hit enter key, the cmd window flashes and then I see new prompt, but nothing else; ie, no information in the cmd window...any suggestions on this issue?

Open a command prompt & navigate to the directory with hdparm. try this command: hdparm-I sda -I think that should list dma options, while this: hdparm-X 69 sda -that should set the drive to UMDA5

Lastly, unless you rip alot of dvd's, I'm not sure you'd notice too big a difference from umda2 to umda5- it only affects large sequential transfers, not smaller R/W that makes up most of the use by the operating system.

Thanks for your help...but those are the linux commands in terms of reference to drive....what I'm trying to find is the correct syntax for use in Windows...if possible....otherwise, I'll need to install Cygwin and use hdparm from there....

Well, I do notice a difference now in that Runcore is slower and UX feels less responsive now than with the Samsung 48GB SSD that it came with....even get pauses where I see the spinning little green circle, which I wasn't seeing before.....
Starting to think about either going back to Samsung or getting another SSD; photofast?.....

photofast v4 is quicker for small file burst writes and and fast read speeds. I also found it faster for booting up. for large data transfer the samsung is considerably faster though. photofast v4 uses a bit more juice than the samsung. Ultimately low power, extra durability plus fast write speeds makes for a very nice drive.

your runcore must have the horrible jmicron ssd controller. what happens is mlc has slower write speeds than the samsung which has slc nand. with no buffer, you may get the win 7 like hour glass alot more frequent while it catches up.
Photofast has 64mb buffer which helps, but when writing large files, it will suffer the same as runcore once buffer is used up. This is because the photofast too uses mlc nand.
