I ordered mine today. For $7.5, I think it's worth the try. ;)

Now it's time to look for a cheap and fast 32GB CF. :D

Well, you have to consider whether this solution offers a wear-leveling feature. You wouldn't want to lose your data once the CF Card fails in just a couple of months because of multiple reads and writes to just one area of the flash card.

Having said that, you may consider this new CF card for use with the adapter:

Not to mention, if your CF card doesn't support UDMA modes, your PC will be slower than with the hard drive - the CPU will spike every time you hit the hard drive...

I'm about to try the diy ssd option.

I'll be measuring read/write speed and general perfomance under xp and trying to determine the wear leveling characteristics of compact flash cards.

You do need a CFcard that is in FixedDisk mode.
You can buy CFcards that are preset as a FixedDisk or you will need a tool to do so.
Speed might depend on the UX model, my 280P does not do better than udma33, maybe newer UX models will.
