Got this installed on the 390N, honestly I am not that impressed. It does run quicker than Vista (totally subjective, no side by side test or benchmarks to back this up)

It seems mostly just like Vista, nothing new and cool that I have seen so far.

I highly doubt it would run faster than XP on the UX, but I have not tried it so maybe it does!

So it runs as good as Windows Server 2008 ? LOL honestly I probably won't try it until they have a public beta... way long time!

I would have to run some benchmarks using the 390N for a totally fair and objective comparison. My guess is that it runs faster than Vista but maybe not as fast as 2008. It has some weird taskbar modification that seems like they are trying to make it like the OSX dock. It didn't deploy properly with BDD '08 but then again neither did server '08.

I wonder how this OS will be for mobile devices.. long live XP lol

Did you notice how much space the OS was taking up, I remember Jenn was saying that 7 is somewhat smaller than Pista in size ??

A little over a minute to boot and be usable on the UX390N (SSD model)

Drum roll please.... here are the less than impressive Windows 7 Benchmarks

Here are the benchmarks for Server 2008 on the same system

This is mwilson's benchmark of a 390N with Vista Enterprise clean installed

And here are the marks for XP :D Clearly the winner by a large margin

Consider that the 5,000 mark difference between windows 7 and XP doesn't mean that much. Some things are cooler in Windows 7, it feels better than Vista. I know the benchmarks don't lie but I am getting hooked on some of the new features. I do see that Microsoft is "trying" to make a better OS. Server 2008 is really nice, and there are things on XP that just feel dated now that I have been using the newer OS. I really hope Anh gets the RAM upgrade cracking, I think that plus the Core2Duo would give the UX the power it needs to be an amazing workstation. I really want more memory, the chip is fast, but I fell cramped on memory and drive space with the UX.

How did you get sound working? What is this 280p driver pack you're talking about? I used Sull's but the audio didn't work at all on the 280p... and the one from Sony's site for vista produces horrible sound.

And about performance... Windows 7 boots from scratch in 25 seconds on my 280p (I disabled some useless services so it'd be more like XP). This is breathtaking. I have a Hard Drive in this thing, not an SSD. A friggen hard drive. After the Vaio logo fades when it's first turned on, I count the little loading bar go across 1.5 times. This is, like, faster than hibernation was on XP. When I click on something, it loads in a snap--faster than XP.

It's so weird to see benchmarks like that... I have done a comparison with some of my programs (openoffice, boot/shutdown, running tasks in scheduler), and 7 beat XP sp3 every step of the way.

But how do you get sound working??? It's so choppy and garbled!!
PS: mspaint is now actually quite cool. :D

[edit] I should probably say I did turn off most of the 'security' and 'alert' features, as well as UAC, and optimized the HD usage with ultimatedefrag, and I did boot/shutdown a few times and use OpenOffice a few times before I tested. Superfetch is amazing, no? :) [/edit]
