Ubuntu Lucid, getting HD accel working with the Intel GPU

Postby bigs » Sun Oct 16, 2011 09:15

Recently I came across a site that allows for updating the GPU driver to the latest version. This version is designed to support H.264 and HD video acceleration for Intel based video cards.

Surprisingly after installing this driver on my UX u7700, when I play 720P videos and youtube 720P video the CPU only uses about 35%.

This is the most impressive update one can do for Ubuntu 10.04!!

Here is how one can do it.

Add this to the Repos

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu lucid main #xorg-edgers PPA
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu lucid main #xorg-edgers PPA

then do this in terminal

$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 8844C542
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

vola the driver is updated and the drop from using about 70% CPU to 35% there abouts is very noticeable. I don't think I need the Crystal HD PCI-e card with this kind of performance.

"E: command line option --recv-keys is not understood" This is my error. Any ideas?
