I am not MAC expert, so I am not sure.
I found out, if you update bios, upgrade cpu after you installed MAC, you will get kernel panic.

I just followed the steps for 10.6.8 and it's running fine now.

Note: you may not find AppleIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext, but you may find AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext, so just copy this file to desktop for later install.
The folder is: root drive/System/Library/Extentions

I am trying to get external monitor works. Can you give me some hints where to look?
You can run Software Update from the APPLE icon which in mind that uncheck MBA firmware update and if there is something relate to whole system update.

- Just bought a WD MyBook, and connected to dock by Firewire and automatically detected! Didn't run a speedtest, but it seem is faster than usb connection (wich MyBook already has too!) (and seems the same on Win7)

- There is "10.6.8 critical update" or something like this...Anyone tried?
- Wanted to turn off scren on UX while connected to external monitor...Nothing found, nothing works...AND don't try InsomniaX soft!!!! It will crash your system. Any ideas???

Mmm...sorry, I didn't do anything else out of this guides on this forum and get external monitor to work...Don't you? If not, do not why...

So, happy to have you here at SL, did you try Lion? Is it worth on UX?

What I really want is to use ONLY the external monitor, without having the UX's screen on...

Thanks, and sorry for not helping to much...

i am getting a minidvi to VGA adapter fro this old macbook I have aquired. Anh will let you know how it goes with detecting external display. There is a "detect displays" in the System preferences and Display program. Have you tried this Anh?

Strange thats sportsfisio can get his external screen going, and yet the Ux anh is using cannot get it going.

Anh, mabe need to start over and before setting up other feautres of osx, maybe just try to get external screen going?

Got my minidvi to VGA adapter fro my old macbook, and indeed the detect display button works. I suspect for the UX it may need more modding of some sort,.

Yes, I am also planing to reinstall osx 10.6.3 to see if QE and CL work.
If youtube works, I think external display should work too.

yes more than likely as that means the GMA950 is supported.

Also I think snow leopard prefers to have 2Gb RAM, which the UX is lacking. This will have impact on general performance. Best stick to Leopard if I were you.

I managed to get youtube video and external monitor work.
I just missed a step.
What I have that works is:
- Bluetooth
- GMA950 QE/CL and external monitor
- LAN (Mavell Yukon)
- Semi-working Intel 3945
- Audio, but Mic is not working properly since it makes noise when LCD moves up or down or you place your hand near the Mic.
- LCD is automatically off as set in power settings.
