Thicker yes. I was looking at the 80GB 5G iPod and it's thicker than the 30GB beside it... presuming the drive is as well. The 60GB is discontinued...

so is it possible to upgrade the 40gb harddrive to a higher capacity, or even faster HD? Also is there a way to maintain the hidden partition? I like to recover without disk, if need be. And would the upgraded drive have hard drive disk protection like the stock one does?

BTW i see on dynasim they have 80gb harddrives...

I have a 280P with an 80Gb Toshiba disk in it. Works fine, get's rather warm - fan is on a lot.

how does it effect battery power, and can you post the link where you got it from or model number? and was it easy to install?

Thats a 100g 1.8 drive, will that work in UX? and will it be better then the 80gig one? i dont know what the buffer size is.

and nobody answered if the 80 gig or 100gig hd has same hd protection as the 40gig=(

Upgraded by UX50 (picked up the Toshiba 80GB drive at a parts shop in Tokyo) and just to be a total dork installed Vista Ultimate.

Yeah, I need help. Professional help.

The HD upgrade went without a hitch. Used the guides avail on these forums and they worked brilliantly. Drive is a bit thinker, but works fine. I wonder a bit if impact protection has been effected, but so far so good.

Still having a few power related issues. Battery life seems to have dropped in half on my standard battery and my extended batt has completely given up the ghost. Prob Vista related issues though.

all in all it is MUCH happier having free space to move on the drive. The initial 30GB seems ridiculously small, especially since installing Vista and Office filled about 20GB.

Drive set me back about 200$US. well worth it.

Unfortunately, I can't answer any of those question. Mine already came with 80Gb... don't know why and how

I can tell you that the battery lasts for a bit over 2 hrs. and the fan is on a lot - almost always.

As for the model number... it's the Toshiba MK8009GAH.

Hmm, so far my main concern is the HDD protection, though it is tempting to wait for 100g...

don't do it. Apparently drives inside ipod is protected. I remember seeing the same thing few years ago with Ipod Mini. It dis-allowed ppl re-use the CF Micro-Drive on digital cameras.

I just tried a 80GB (Gen 5.5 Ipod) and it won't work because u can not re-partition it.
