There has been an error in my first post, instead of (Extended Performance Counter List), the correct name is: (Extensible Performance Counter List)
Here is the link:
(Freeware)

and of course, validation is required.
After you setup this tool you will find a folder in the program files called: (Resource Kit). It will be there. It doesn't create any shortcut on desktop or start menu.
And here is a direct download link for a portable version (no setup is required):

When you run this tool, disable all counter services by selecting each one then unchecking (Performance Counters Enabled) checkbox.
This tip also applies to Windows XP and XP Tablet PC

Welcome to the forum and great first post
I am all about getting the best performance out of the UX, currently I am running a nlite version of Windows XP which is a 260mb disc and is heavily tweaked
I do have a list of registry tweaks for XP and Vista, both of them are very similar because a lot of the tweaks work in either OS. These tweaks are saved in a .reg file and and give an explanation on what they do, if you like you can add them to your post ( or just attach the two reg files ).
I just recently made a vlite of Vista for my deskop, fits on a CD and is working great. I mentioned in another thread I would make a vlite for the UX when I had a chance. Probably going to start on this right away, if anyone has any requests ? before I just made an image of all the drivers and applications installed, this time I would just like to upload the Vista CD but if anyone wants an image I will be making one anyway to test out the vlite
This way you can save a lot of space ( Vista is very BLOATED )
MohamedFawzy, have you tried running any nlite versions of XP or any vlite of Vista ?
anyways like I said great first post

Dear Sull86
Thanks for your response; I have done the nLite thing with Windows XP two years ago on Acer and LG laptops. It's great really. That's a very nice tip.
Well, I have download the vLite version for Windows Vista, but it doesn't accept my Windows folder as a source, I wonder where can I find the source of Windows Vista installation files? Actually, I don't like to use other Windows Vista sources, because it will require activation. The version installed by factory defaults is OEM, which is already pre-activated. Plus some Vaio Software won't install on the new operating system because it will not recognize it as a vaio system (because the OEM stamp doesn't exist).
Windows Vista is better than XP with many updated and improved features. I agree with you that it is very bloated, but once optimized, it will be the best operating system ever. For many years, Mac OSX users have been arguing that Mac is the best, (gorgeous and efficient user interface, stable, instant search function, sleep function, productive features etc). Now with similarity between Vista and OSX, who would use Windows XP?
The sleep function and mobility center available in Vista is very important for UX, it's not available in XP. Also Vista fits display for objects when changing the DPI, rotating the screen, while XP doesn't. in XP you have the standby mode but it consumes alot of battery compared to sleep mode in Vista.
Also, the new feature in Vista (Use checkbox to select items) - is important and very necessary for Tablet PCs – Folder and Search Options --> View --> Advanced Setting. It's just easier to select files with stylus rather than pressing on Ctrl while clicking on them. Windows XP doesn't offer that feature.
Instant search is also needed in UX, especially when running programs, you don't want to waste your time scrolling and looking for a program. Just type its name, and there you have it.
Also, the natural language search is like magic when enabled, you just type something like: "Pictures of family in egypt taken December 2006", then you have what you want instantly. You don't have that in XP
– Folder and Search Options --> Search --> Use Natural Language Search
So right now I am NOT interested to go back to XP, even if it is smaller in size , but I am interested in reducing Windows Vista size by removing unwanted features. Does the vLite or any other software do that to installed OEM version instead of modifying installation files of a different Vista version? If so, please tell me how.
That was a GREAT contribution thank you Sull86.

I respect what you said, yes Vista is better but for the UX I don't find it as fast as my XP install, I did try a vlite made by someone else and I had issues so I am going to make my own vlite of Vista for the UX and then try it again. When making a vlite of vista and taking it down to the size of a CD once installed is still 5gb eeek
ah its ok
Do you have an OEM Vista DVD ? so you coppied the files to your computer and tryed to use vlite and it would not work ??
My vlite was a great sucess for my desktop so I am going to try making one for my UX, also I have some more tweaks for Vista at home, I will post them once off work
Talk to you again soon

I recommend it for UX , so much better and lighter than Norton Internet Security.
