Model.txt Trick [Updated: 10/5/08]

I should know what I am doing as I am in the IT industry but I am having trouble with this model.txt file...

For some strange reason, I get 2 model.txt files created - one empty and one with my model number in it. Now as the plan is to stop the exe wrting to the file, I assume that I use the empty file so that the exe cannot put my model number in (ie keep it empty). However this still does not work.

So if I use plan b - where do I find out what the model number is for each app? Assume that they are all different?

That is related with what drivers pack you're using and OS:
1. XP OS - pack drivers for XP;
2. Vista OS / Win7 OS - drivers pack for Vista / Win7.
Also, you should have in consideration what modell do you have: 180p (it won't work with Vista/Win7 because of RAM lack), 280p, 380n, 390n ...
Using model.exe, just delete (BEFORE opening the exe file) the 2 files created (modell.txt); open the *.exe file inside Windows root and type exactly like explained in my previous posts. Open it with XP / Vista / Win7 compatibility (depending on what OS are you using and driver pack) and run it as administrator.

I don't know which OS you're using, but if it's Vista/7, all the non-Japanese drivers (the Felicia and SonyCXD are the only JP drivers) the model you need is UX-490N.

You don't need the JP drivers at all (unless you have a Japanese UX and live in Japan): Felicia is a Japanese payment system built into the dock, and the CXD is a 1Seg TV tuner for Japan.

For XP, I think it's UX-280P, but I'm not 100% sure as it's been a really long time since I used XP.

So, to sum up.
Make your model.txt file say Model = "UX-490N" for the Vista/7 driver pack, then lock it down so it can't be modified.

For XP, same deal but with Model = "UX-280P" I think...

Vista, no. But you can run Windows 7 on 512MB or RAM just fine. It's not going to be super quick, but it'll work.

How do I get this to work with Windows 7? Since I followed the Vista steps and its a no go, no matter what I do.

Hmm strange, I just changed my model number and locked out the file, it works fine.

I put mine as a 490N in the model.txt and it seems to work.

hi,
i don't understand why we need to trick model txt when installing drivers etc. i have ux90s, ux380n and ux1xn. after a clearn install of windows 7 Ultimate on all of them and have installed drivers and utilities from model ux1xn.
everything is working fine on all of them apart from rear camera without tricking anything.

Because UK software do not have model check.
Only US model and may be others have model check on almost Vaio models.
