ASUS R2Hv with faster CPU

Finally Asus decided to put Pentium M into the slow R2H + more RAM and bump up the price.

I had R2H for a while and the speed is the biggest let down.

I still think UX280P is much better than R2H I had.

Nice fine, looks pretty nice, HDD options are decent, up to 60GB HDD. The only thing I dislike is the lack of a built in keyboard. I know some people are Handwriting inputers for life, but I'm terrible with that, and its to slow for me. Strange RAM options with default 256MB of RAM or up to 768MB. They should have gone with the standard 512MB or 1GB. Optional Bluetooth is a bit strange, for anyone getting this UMPC I would make sure that they get the BT : P

I am strongly of buying a new Asus R2H, but I want to know - I can replace the Pentium-M 1.7GHz Centrino old I am? It could be the size of the hole?

I don't know about the CPU upgrade, but RAM can go up to 2.25GB, despite what the specs say! Lots of people over at ASUS forums have done that, including myself! This is more than enough for Win XP Tablet (from my own experience) and also Win 7 32bit (from what I've read by other users). Also, removing ASUS bloatware, and using nLite to strip down XP results in a zippy-enough system even with the stock processor.

I doubt there are any more “new” R2H’s out there. Google has a couple of stores saying they have it in stock (not sure if it’s new or refurbished) and sell it for $1100-1800. I am also selling mine at eBay right now; give it a look if you want to.

I see all the time in criticism of this UMPC. I hold off on it. I thought it would be cool to have at least 2 USB ports and built-in Bluetooth, but my current setup is not so bad.

The 256mb ram is permanent, its soldered onto the mobo to save space. In the second slot I’m guessing he bought it with a 512mb stick, I think thats what they’re selling it with.

The max you can get the device to is 1.25gb I do believe.

Removing the ACMon.exe process prevents you from switching between the various color modes using the built-in resolution/color switching tool with the bottom right button of the R2H.There’s another thread dealing with R2H startup items here:

I’m currently trying to use a RAMDisk (I’m evaluating Cenatek’s one) to see if it improves the R2H usability. So far, after preventing a couple of processes to start at boot and using the RAMdisk for the temporary folders in Windows/IE/Firefox, the R2H is quite useable
